13 blasts rock Ahmedabad

    Thirteen blasts have rocked Ahmedabad killing 45+ and injuring at least 162+ people on Saturday evening. Is this UPA winning Gift: BJP


    The first blast took place in Bapunagar at 6:45 pm and all the blasts took place within a span of 15 minutes.


    The blasts took place in Maninagar, Sarkhej, Isanpur, Bapunagar and Haksar. Maninagar being Gujarrat CM Narendra Modi's constituency.The bombs were planted on cycles in crowded marketplaces and tiffin boxes.

    Police have rushed to the affected spot and there is no confirmation on the kind of explosion.The blasts have taken place primarily in eastern part of Ahmedabad, which are upper middle class dominated areas.


    Security agencies have been put on high alert and mobile phones blocked.They are trying to figure if more bombs are there like in the case of Bangalore blasts.


    These blasts take place exactly a day after eight low intensity serial blasts in Bangalore.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil have condemned the serial blasts.



    Terror struck Ahmedabad when 16 coordinated serial blasts ripped across the city on Saturday night killing 29 people and injuring over 100 sending a wave of panic, a day after serial blasts rocked Bangalore in another BJP-ruled state.The synchronised ''low-intensity'' explosions rocked 16 crowded areas including market places in the Gujarat capital in a space of 60 to 70 minutes after the first blast hit Maninagar at 6.45 pm.



    Some of the blast sites were in sensitive areas.The blasts took place in Maninagar (three blasts), Sarkhej, Isanpur, Bapunagar and Hatkeshwar. There were three blasts in Maninagar - the constituency of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.The blast in Sarkhej took place in a CNG bus. Blasts also took place in Naroda Patiya, Thakkar Nagar, Odhav, Narol, Sarangpur and Jawahar Chowk.Significantly, two blasts occurred in the premises of Civil and LG hospitals where several victims of the explosions in other areas were rushed.


    A nationwide alert has been sounded.''The blasts were of low intensity and similar to those which hit Bangalore,'' Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal told reporters in Kanpur.Doctors at Vadilal Sarabhai hospital said 12 people died while there were several seriously injured persons receiving treatment.The bombs were planted on cycles and tiffin boxes in crowded market places.




    According to reports a woman has said that in Maninagar area she saw a boy in black shirt was on a cycle with tiffin tied to it, the blast took place minutes after he left.Police have rushed to the affected spots and and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been called in. However, there is no confirmation on the kind of explosion.Paramilitary forces have been deployed in most of the sensitive areas in Ahmedabad.

    Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has convened a high level meeting on Sunday morning to review the security situation throughout the country.Modi condemned the blasts and appealed for calm. His party leader and MP from Gandhinagar L K Advani blamed the Centre and the lack of tough anti-terror laws for the rise in terror activities but would not draw conclusions about two BJP-ruled states-Gujarat and Karnataka - being specifically targeted.''Very terrible and the perpetrators are bent upon creating communal divide,'' said Prithvi Raj Chauhan, Minister, PMO.''Please don't politicise this tragic incident.


    Whatever is needed we will provide. President had said that time has come that we need a Central Disaster agency. It is needed but states need to come out together for this,'' said Shakil Ahmad, Home MoS.The Minister of State for home said that all metros have been put on high alert.


    Television channels claimed they got an e-mail from little known outfit called 'Indian Mujahideen' to say they were responsible for today's blasts.The same outfit had claimed responsibility for the blasts in Jaipur and Uttar Pradesh.
